Job description Essential Functions
Represent the State of Illinois in Europe, primarily in the EU and the United Kingdom, with a focus on trade and investment.
Develop and execute strategies to promote Illinois exports and attract FDI.
Provide market intelligence, matchmaking, and support services to Illinois companies entering the European market.
Identify and engage potential European investors interested in establishing or expanding operations in Illinois.
Organize trade missions, investment seminars and networking events.
Collaborate with U.S. and European government agencies, chambers of commerce and industry associations.
Prepare regular reports and updates for the Illinois Office of Trade and Investment based in Chicago.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with courses in marketing, international marketing, business and economics.
Experience: Experience in project management, international business and marketing, public or business administration.
Must be fluent (reading, writing and speaking) in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two years’ experience working in international trade, foreign direct investment, economic development or a closely related field.
Two years’ experience working directly with European business and government sectors.
Two years’ experience negotiating trade and investment agreements.
Conditions of Employment
Must have a valid passport and the ability to travel regionally and internationally.
Must have the ability to work overtime.
Must have the ability to work outside standard business hours for meetings with international team members and stakeholders.
This position is located in Brussels, Belgium. Residency in Belgium is required.
Profile The State of Illinois is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated professional to lead its European Office based in Brussels. This strategic role is central to advancing Illinois' global economic footprint by promoting exports and attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) from Europe into the state. As Managing Director, you will serve as Illinois' primary liaison to European businesses, trade organizations and government entities. You will work closely with Illinois companies to expand their international reach and help European firms explore investment opportunities in the state.
